With just one day to go before the provincial election, a new survey on where BC voters’ thoughts and intentions lie has been released.

According to Leger, the poll found that if the provincial election were held today, the NDP would capture the highest proportion of the popular vote (47%) among decided voters, followed by the Liberal Party (36%).

Half (49%) of respondents have already voted in the upcoming BC election, taking place on October 24.

Over one-third (37%) feel John Horgan is the party leader that ran the best campaign, although almost as many (33%) say they don’t know.

Amongst party faithful, the poll found that the NDP and Liberal Party have about the same proportion of committed voters (72% and 74%, respectively), higher than the Green Party (54%).

Those between the ages of 18-34 (39%) are far more likely to switch their vote than those
55+ (16%).

Of the five themes that have emerged in the election so far, the two that are deemed most important are as follows:

  • A credible plan that invests in services such as healthcare, education and childcare so British Columbian families have the support they need (91% state very/somewhat important).
  • A stable, experienced government to ensure the province continues to get through the COVID-19 pandemic in a manner that keeps British Columbians safe and still keeps the economy moving forward (89% stating very/somewhat important).
  •  The stable, experienced government theme was rated “very important” by two-thirds (66%) of respondents.

According to Leger, the poll was conducted October 18-21, 2020, among 1,100 residents of British Columbia, 18 years of age or older, who have the right to vote in British Columbia, randomly recruited from LEO’s online panel or telephone interviewing.

Using data from the 2016 Census, the results were weighted according to region, age, and gender in order to ensure a representative sample of the population of British Columbia.
