According to Lauren Sundstrom, “identity can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people” — especially when it comes to gender.

Lauren Sundstrom is a local trans activist and educator who fights for trans rights and works to change public misperceptions of the trans community. She actively takes part in protests and speaking events, and shares her own experience as a trans woman.

Sundstrom has been encouraging acceptance and inclusion by being visible on social media. Despite the bigotry that has come with this visibility, Sundstrom believes that visibility can produce change and can lead to acceptance.

For Sundstrom, keeping an open mind and having these important discussions will encourage progress.
“We just need to continue moving forward, continue getting policies in place and continue to change minds,” she says.
