East Vancouver elementary school reports coronavirus case

Laura Secord Elementary in East Vancouver has confirmed a coronavirus case in the school community.

The Vancouver School Board confirmed the case tied to the school in an email to Daily Hive Thursday. It did not say whether the infected person was a student or a staff member, nor would it say what day the infected person was last at school.

“The health, safety and well-being of students, families and staff remains our highest priority,” the board said. “Like all schools, Secord will continue to implement the strict health and safety protocols and procedures that are in place so children and staff can continue to attend school as safely as possible.”

Laura Secord sent a letter home to parents this week informing them of the coronavirus case. The board said anyone in direct contact with the infected person would be contacted by Vancouver Coastal Health contact tracers.

Anyone not contacted by public health staff can continue to come to school.
