The Honda Celebration of Light, held over a few nights annually at English Bay, brings people from all around the lower mainland to marvel at the spectacular fireworks show that lights up the night sky.

With millions of people flocking towards the popular summertime event, it often causes large delays, hectic traffic, and impossible parking situations.

Save yourself the stress and frustration of waiting in traffic and instead make your way up Davie Street and enjoy some late-night eats.

To make matters better, if you’re taking the Canada Line to get home, these eateries are on your way to the Yaletown-Roundhouse station.

Here are six places along Davie Street offering late-night eats.

La Belle Patate

Poutine and late-night eats are two things that go perfectly hand-in-hand. Crisp, fried potatoes are smothered in a hearty gravy and ever-so-melted cheese curds. For the taste of a truly Montreal-inspired meal, opt for a pair of steamies or their Montreal smoked meat platter. If you’re feeling extra hungry, consider this your one-stop-shop. You can also come here for all-you-can-eat poutine.

Breka Bakery has made a sizeable name for themselves, with three locations scattered across downtown Vancouver. The 24/7 bakery is an always-reliable option for fresh coffee and a tantalizing selection of baked goods and desserts. Not only that, but they make a mean sandwich if you’re looking for something more substantial.

Donair Dude

Donair Dude entices the masses by pairing freshly-diced vegetables with a selection of meats, carved right before the diner’s eyes. The local late-night favourite offers lamb, beef, and chicken, happily packed into your choice of a pita or tortilla. Don’t forget to ask for extra Halifax sauce as well.

Basil Pasta Bar

Basil Pasta Bar sits right at the beginning of Yaletown but unlike its pricey counterparts, the authentic Italian restaurant serves dishes at much friendlier prices. Diners pick their choice of pasta, sauce, protein, veggies, and garnish, starting at $10. A side of garlic bread also sounds rather tempting.

It would be silly to leave out a pizza place on a list of quintessential late-night eats. Firecrust Neapolitan pizza hits all the stops with 30 different ingredients and a build-your-own pizza or salad experience. Their hand-stretched dough is given a hearty spread of sauce, fresh toppings, and baked to perfection in a wood fire oven, before being handed off to the diner.

Nobody ever complained about breakfast food, even when it’s 11 pm at night. Shoestring potatoes, runny egg yolks, and stacks of pancakes should be more than enough to hit that late-night craving. Slide into a booth, order a milkshake (or two), and decide whether to order the grand slam with bacon or sausage. This spot is open 24 hours daily.
