Why BC’s Kumsheen rafting experience will absolutely make your summer

Now that summer is in full swing, it’s the perfect time to get outside and explore the great outdoors (and not to mention, find somewhere to cool off from the raging heat).

The beauty of living in Vancouver is that, at any point, you can simply hop in your car and trade city life for the wonders of nature that BC has to offer. If you’re looking for something fun and adrenaline-pumping to do this summer, we know just the activity.

Round up your friends, load up the car, and hit the road for Kumsheen’s white water rafting experience of a lifetime.

During the three-hour drive to Lytton, you’ll take in the amazing views of the Fraser Canyon, and you’ll quickly fall in love with BC all over again. All the while, the sun will be shining as you enter Canada’s hot spot, where the average temperature is 28.1 degrees and there’s hardly ever rain throughout the summer.

Whether you’re a first-time rafter or if you’ve gone rafting before, you’ll have a blast and be laughing the whole way down the Thompson River with your group at Kumsheen Rafting Resort. Bernie Fandrich pioneered white water rafting on the Thompson River out of his Volkswagen back in 1973. Since then, the family and the resort have grown and now you can learn about the rapids Bernie named with the Fandrich sons and their team of expert guides.

Rafting trips are offered every day until the end of September, so you can choose the day that works best for your group. Plus, the team at Kumsheen are happy to handle most of the planning, from the rafting to your stay; so you can focus on enjoying your trip.

Firstly, you’ll want to choose your preferred style of rafting — power or paddle (or try the combo package and experience both!).

Power rafting involves a motorized raft that crashes through the waves, and you can rerun all your favourite rapids. All you have to do is hold on and enjoy the ride while listening to the amazing stories told by your guide. Or take on the rush of the river with a paddle in your hands as you listen to the instruction of your guide and work your way down the river as a team. (It’s a tough call though, as both options will leave you with a huge smile on your face!)

Each option is a day trip which includes getting taken on a scenic ride down the upper section of the Thompson River before coming ashore and tucking into a delicious burrito buffet with pulled pork that the Kumsheen team has prepared for you.

After this, you’ll hop back on the raft and head down an area known as The Devils Gorge, which has 18 consecutive rapids. All we can say is that this will be one of the most thrilling afternoons that you’ll have this summer. And if you opt for the paddle raft, you’ll even get a little workout in, too!

When you’re done rafting for the day, don’t even think of having to drive back to Vancouver — because you don’t have to.

The Kumsheen Resort has everything you need for an epic stay close to the canyon. Book a two-day package and upgrade to a teepee or canvas cabin with views of the canyon from all angles, or park up your RV instead, and get ready for an evening of relaxation.

Take a dip in the pool or hot tub, check out their Live Summer Music Series on Saturdays in July and August, dine at the Cutting Board Restaurant, and kick back with a drink in hand as the evening draws in.

If you’re bringing the kids along and they’re too young to go rafting, they can enjoy the pool and hot tub instead.

The next morning, a tasty breakfast will be waiting for you at The Cutting Board Restaurant before you hit the road back to Vancouver or to the next stop on your adventure. So really, you only need to bring yourself, an overnight bag, and your fun-loving attitude with you to Kumsheen Resort.

The resort offers packages for team bonding activities and hosts family reunions, bachelorette and bachelor parties, annual camping trips, and so much more.

Visit Kumsheen Rafting Resort now for more information and to book your trip.
