T&T Supermarket’s CEO, Tina Lee, is incentivizing customers to visit North Vancouver’s Kim’s Cafe after it was the victim of a racist incident.

On May 4, the owner of Kim’s Cafe, Dooyi Kim, shared CCTV footage of an altercation with a customer who made numerous repeat visits to the cafe’s Instagram.

According to the post, after placing an order, the customer had mistakenly taken a different customer’s order. She had returned to the cafe over an hour later after it had closed, requesting a refund, which Kim processed.

The following day, the same customer returned to the cafe, demanding a refund. After informing the customer that the refund had already been processed, she proceeded to argue and started shouting, saying, “Go back to f*cking Korea where you belong.”

“As business gets busier, situations like this seem to happen more often,” wrote Kim.

Following the incident, Kim’s Cafe has since received an outpouring of support from the community.

“Over the past two days, so many people have contacted me and visited the cafĂ©, and honestly, I don’t understand how to handle all of this attention. Please also do not be too harsh toward the customer involved. We are all just people living together here in North Vancouver. I truly appreciate all of the kindness, support, and encouragement,” wrote the cafe in a follow-up post.

One of these supporters was Lee, who is offering folks who support Kim’s Cafe a chance to save money on their next grocery trip.

“I wanted to do something special for a lovely lady named Dooyi Kim, who owns a small shop called @Kimscafe2023 in North Van,” wrote Lee on Instagram.

Until May 15, Lee said that those who spend $20 or more at Kim’s Cafe can get $10 off at Osaka Supermarket in Park Royal Mall when showing their receipt from Kim’s Cafe at checkout.

“Let’s surprise Dooyi this week and show her what real Canadian love looks like!” added Lee.
