A Kelowna man has been arrested after police say they discovered a small camera hidden inside a washroom at a popular winery.

Kelowna RCMP was called to Summerhill Pyramid Winery on Friday regarding a possible voyeurism offence after a witness found a camera in the staff washroom.

Following an investigation, the man — who is reportedly an employee at the winery — was arrested and police say he could be facing charges of voyeurism pending the outcome of the investigation.

He was released from custody with an upcoming court date.

“The Kelowna General Investigations Section are continuing their investigation into this incident as they work with the staff and management at that location,” said Cst. Lesley Smith with Kelowna RCMP, in a statement.

“Evidence has been seized in relation to this offence and once it has been properly processed, RCMP will be able to determine how many victims may be involved and further charges could be forwarded,”

In an email to Daily Hive, Ezra Cipes, CEO of Summerhill Winery, made clear that the incident occurred in a staff bathroom and that the “the public is not in danger.”

“We are working to support our great team through this trauma, and asking for the public’s support,” he said.

Cipes confirmed that the individual is no longer an employee at the winery.
