While there is a seemingly never-ending list of eateries and bars open and opening soon here, this city has some old favourites that never let us down.

One of those places and, in our opinion, one of Vancouver’s best-hidden gems,Ā is Jules Bistro in Gastown.

This spot is just straight up charming, tucked in between an alleyway and Clough Club at 216 Abbott Street, it’s easy to miss if you’re not looking for it.

The menu is simple and the eats are always quality. Boasting one of the best steak frites in the city this casual French Bistro is a no-brainer if you need a glass of wine and some comfort food.

Jules’ owner and chef, Emmanuel Joinville, was born, raised, and trained in Dijon, France. He’d previously opened bistros in Dijon and Paris before coming to Vancouver, so you know you’re getting authentic eats here.

Currently operating in its twelfth year of business, Jules has space for 45 inside and 20 on its patio where people can enjoy all the classic French fare you never knew you needed in your life.

While it’s easy to fill up on starters and shareables like the Charcuterie Platter, Escargots Bourguignonne, Dill Marinated Salmon Carpaccio, and French Onion Soup, we’d urge you to save some room for hearty mains.

Plates such as Roasted Rack of Lamb, Moulard Duck Leg Confit, Moules Frites, and Seafood Linguini (along with a rotating features sheet) are up for order, and they are all pretty stellar.

The magic of Jules starts with the food, but really it’s the room and the service that will keep you coming back.

Many regulars return to this spot over and over again because it’s a little piece of France in downtown Vancouver ā€“ if you haven’t tried yet be sure you do.

Jules Bistro is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:30 am till closing.
