Elias Pettersson spoke at a media event in Stockholm yesterday, organized by the Swedish Olympic Committee ahead of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games.
While the Vancouver Canucks star hasn’t officially been named to Sweden’s Olympic team, he’s a sure bet to make the final roster if healthy. And in that regard, it sounds like everything is going well for the 26-year-old, who indicated that he’s been bulking up this summer.
But that may not have been the most revealing thing to come out of Pettersson’s media availability.
Eagle-eyed Canucks fans on social media have noticed a new piece of jewellery on Pettersson’s left-hand ring finger. Multiple images from photo service Imago confirm the pictures are real.
That explains why “Did Petey get married?” is one of the most popular topics on Canucks Reddit right now.

American model Katelyn Byrd, believed by fans to be Pettersson’s girlfriend ever since she was spotted wearing the Canucks star’s jacket at the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament last February, has said she’s been spending the summer living in Sweden.
She, too, has a new addition to her left-hand ring finger, with what appears to be a diamond engagement ring.

So did Petey get married?
Not necessarily.
In Sweden, it is customary for both men and women to wear engagement rings on their left-hand ring finger.
“Swedish engagement ring traditions revolve around the exchange of gold bands for both men and women, rather than elaborate diamond rings,” Swedish jewellery shop JO&LYD explains on its website.
“In Sweden, the decision to get engaged is typically a mutual one, reflecting the countryās focus on gender equality. Both the man and the woman wear engagement rings leading up to the wedding, with the man returning his ring before the ceremony and receiving it back during the wedding.”
Pettersson could have popped the question this offseason, mixing Swedish and American traditions with the engagement rings, with a wedding date set for another time.
Or maybe they just liked the way those rings looked on those fingers. Who’s to say?
