Support pours in for international student critically injured in Vancouver crash

B.C.’s Nepali community is banding together to support a student critically injured in a Vancouver pedestrian-involved car crash.
Sandeep Paudel, a Nepali student who had only recently arrived in Canada from Kathmandu, was struck at the intersection of Drake Street and Pacific Boulevard shortly after 2:30 p.m. on May 13.
According to a GoFundMe organized for his benefit by the Nepal Cultural Society of British Columbia (NCSBC) and the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA Canada), the tragic accident shook Vancouver’s Yaletown neighbourhood.

“Sandeep came to Canada at the beginning of April, full of dreams and aspirations. He now lies in critical condition in hospital, fighting for his life,” said the fundraiser. “His spouse, along with loved ones in Nepal, are facing an overwhelming emotional and financial burden.”
Paudel had come to Canada to pursue an MBA at the University Canada West. He was one of two pedestrians transported to hospital after being struck, with a third being assessed and treated at the scene.

At the time of reporting, GoFundMe had raised over $2,500 of its $10,000 goal. NCSBC and NRNA Canada announced that all funds will be used to cover Paudel’s emergency medical expenses, ongoing care, and family support.
“Let’s come together as a community and stand by one of our own. Your kindness and generosity can make a world of difference in Sandeep’s fight for recovery.”
