Indian Summer Festival Opening Gala showcases War & Peace theme through inspired eats

Some of Vancouver’s finest chefs — from restaurants like Vij’s, Café Medina, Blue Water Café, Bella Gelateria, Bauhaus, Jamjar, and Cacao — are gearing up to showcase their culinary talents at Indian Summer Festival’s Opening Gala on July 6.

Curated by Vikram Vij, the event will see the participating chefs working within the festival’s theme of ‘Tales of War & Peace’ — a motif that places emphasis upon open dialogues of hope, difficult truths, and togetherness.

Tayybeh, an organized collective of female chefs from Syria who create authentic dishes from their hometowns of Aleppo, Homs, Daraa, and Idlib, will serve as the gala’s special guests. The feminine construction of the Arabic word ‘tayybeh’ means ‘kind’ — in the Levantine dialect, it means ‘delicious.’

Alongside inspired eats, the gala will feature a live music stage helmed by DJ Rup Sidhu.

Indian Summer Festival runs from July 6 to 15.
