Ikea has implemented a policy calling for mandatory masks in British Columbia.

According to the company, the health measure came into effect on August 31, 2020. Any customers visiting the brand’s Coquitlam or Richmond location will be required to wear a mask or face covering.

Mandatory mask usage was also announced at all Ikea locations in Winnipeg, meaning that a mandatory mask policy is now in place at Ikea retail locations across Canada.

The policy does not apply to those who cannot wear a masks for medical reasons, children under the age of two, and those with “other reasonable accommodations.”

Ikea currently has a number of other health and safety measures in place, including floor decals to encourage physical distancing, reduced capacity in stores and in select areas, using separation screens, and frequent sanitization of high-touch points.

Ikea locations in BC have been open since early June, after a several month closure that took place in mid-March.
