Flatpack furniture giant, Ikea has just announced that all of their Canadian retailers will phase out single-use plastics from its home furnishing range and restaurants.

Items like straws, plates, cups, freezer bags, garbage bags, and plastic-coated paper plates and cups will be eliminated by 2020.

New products will also be designed to be repurposed, repaired, reused, resold, and recycled while generating as little waste as possible, says the company.

The long-term goal is for all Ikea products and packing materials to be made from renewable or recyclable material by the year 2030.
