The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been activated following a double murder in Richmond.

The incident occurred on Friday morning at 4:45 am. Frontline officers of the Richmond RCMP responded to a structure fire on the 22000 blocks of Rathburn Drive. The two individuals were found dead inside the home after the fire was put out.

“The circumstances surrounding the deceased were believed to be consistent with a homicide and IHIT was called in,” said Detective Lara Jansen in a statement.

“At this time the two victims have not yet been identified. IHIT investigators are working hard to further this investigation, identify the victims and locate next of kin.”

A burned black BMW SUV was found shortly after the incident near 16 Avenue and 194 Street in Surrey and is believed to be associated with the homicide.

“We are asking anyone with CCTV, dashcam video or information related to the homicide or the burned BMW SUV to contact IHIT,” says Jansen.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-4448 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
