ICBC announces new CEO as digital customer portal is just weeks away

In a unanimous decision from the ICBC Board of Directors, British Columbia’s insurance agency has announced its new president and Chief Executive Officer.
That title now belongs to Jason McDaniel, who has been serving as interim president and CEO since last June. McDaniel has been with ICBC for around two decades.
“He first joined ICBC in 2006 and has held several senior leadership roles, including Vice President of Operations, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary,” ICBC said in a release.
Catherine Holt, ICBC Board Chair, said that the board has full confidence in McDaniel and his leadership, including his commitment to public service and his deep institutional knowledge.
“He played a pivotal role in ICBC’s shift from a legal-based auto insurance model to the Enhanced Care model. And his vision is to continue modernizing ICBC by improving services for customers and keeping insurance rates affordable,” Holt said.
McDaniel said that he’s spent the last six months travelling across the province to meet with customers, stakeholders and employees.
“Those conversations have been invaluable in helping me better understand the needs of the people we serve. I’m committed to keeping that momentum going, and a big part of that is improving digital services.”
On the note of digital services, ICBC will be launching a new customer portal called myICBC in the coming weeks. It promises to bring 23 services to one convenient place.
“This is just the beginning of our work to deliver more accessible, customer-focused services, while keeping insurance affordable, roads safe and supporting priorities like sustainability and Reconciliation,” McDaniel added.
In October, ICBC announced that it was freezing basic insurance rates for drivers.
“Keeping basic insurance rates low and stable is part of our government’s commitment to affordability and helping people manage their day-to-day budgets,” said Niki Sharma, attorney general and minister responsible for ICBC.
ICBC’s previous CEO and president was David Wong, who took the reins after Nicolas Jimenez left. Jimenez went on to become the BC Ferries president and CEO.
