An ICBC employee who works at the company’s head office has tested positive for coronavirus, the insurance corporation confirmed on Tuesday.

According to ICBC spokesperson Lindsay Wilkins, the employee was diagnosed over the weekend but had not been in the office since July 7.

“A number of employees that were in close contact have been notified by the health authority and have been sent home to self-isolate,” Wilkins told Daily Hive.

“Office areas are undergoing a deep clean, in addition to the regular cleaning,” and other measures such as physical distancing and meeting and washroom occupancy limits have been put in place to protect employees, she said.

The case is now being investigated by Vancouver Coastal Health, and Wilkins said the health authority has advised that “no other measures are necessary at this time.”

As well, Wilkins said there is no risk of exposure to customers, “as the employee only works at ICBC Head Office and it has been closed to the public since March 17.”

The news comes on the same day that BC reported 13 new confirmed cases of coronavirus throughout the province.
