If you missed out on trying Hugo’s Churros’ infamous churro ice cream sandwich last year don’t fret, you now have the opportunity to devour this deliciously messy treat over and over again this summer, as the Chilliwack-based vendor has returned to the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet, in Richmond.
Unlike in 2015 when Hugo’s Churros (an extension of Hugo’s Mexican Kitchen) had a stall within the temporary artisanal “food hall” Hawkers Mercado, the casual eatery has its very own space this year.
Featuring inside seating for 40 and outside seating for 16, Hugo’s Churros offers shoppers a comfortable spot to stop and enjoy a bite to eat, when they need a break from shopping.
While Hugo’s Churros dishes up delectable and authentic tacos, like beef barbacoa (slow-cooked sirloin tip with a “Mexico City style” seasoning served with chopped onions, cilantro, and Hugo’s crema), burritos, and nachos, it is their crisp, fresh, hefty churro ice cream sandwich that is the real star of the show.
A cinnamon-sugar crusted morsel, comprised of premium vanilla bean gelato, sandwiched between two flattened swirls of churros, what could be more indulgent or delicious?
Not only does Hugo’s Churros’ menu feature the vanilla bean churro ice cream sandwich, but it also offers two recently launched flavours, which owner Dan Garcia tells Daily Hive include a Fresa (strawberry) gelato sandwich, as well as a pistachio version.
Garcia also hints that the team have some other combos in the works that will launch throughout the summer.
Vancouver’s very own Mario’s Gelati is still suppling the gelato. “I find their gelato is the most rich and creamy, and the perfect pairing with our crisp warm churros,” remarks Garcia.
People went mad over this magical food mash-up last summer, and we’re positive that this year will be no exception.
Hugo’s Churros is open from 11:30 am to 8 pm Monday to Saturday, and 11:30 am to 7 pm Sunday.
