Hudson's Bay reportedly laying off more than 600 employees

Hudson’s Bay Co. is laying off more than 600 workers across Canada, according to a Canadian Press report.

The store says the decision to lay off hundreds of employees as the COVID-19 pandemic wears on was an incredibly tough one.

A Bay spokesperson wouldn’t confirm the number to Daily Hive, but said the layoffs were necessary because of government-mandated store closures during the pandemic.

“Despite the Ontario Superior Court questioning the wisdom and efficacy of the lockdown rules governing non-essential retailers, nearly half our stores remain temporarily closed,”
Tiffany Bourre said via email.

“Due to these circumstances beyond our control, the company has had to make adjustments which has resulted in a reduction in workforce.”

She added the company regrets the impact layoffs will have on store associates.
