Hronek's agent throws shade at Canucks legend Trevor Linden

You won’t find many people in the city of Vancouver that’ll say a bad word about Trevor Linden.

Well, Allan Walsh doesn’t live in the city.

The outspoken agent of Vancouver Canucks defenceman Filip Hronek and numerous other NHL players apparently still holds resentment on Linden’s role in the NHL lockout that ended more than 20 years ago.

In an interview with Satiar Shah and Bik Nizzar on Sportsnet 650, Linden praised the Canucks’ hirings of Ryan Johnson as GM and Daniel and Henrik Sedin as co-presidents.

“You won’t find three better people in the game than Ryan Johnson, and Daniel and Henrik,” said the Canucks legend. “These guys are going to be able to look one another in the eye and trust each other.”

Linden also seemed to outline some of the dysfunction that existed in previous regimes, which should be resolved with this trio.

“They’ve got trust between the two of them… and the general manger. That is critical. That is the most critical piece of the puzzle. They’re going to be able to provide a united front when it comes to ownership, which is absolutely critical. Something that I didn’t have, and I don’t think Patrik Allvin had that either.”

The use of the phrase “presenting a united front” seemed to hit a nerve with Walsh. Linden was the president of the NHLPA during the 2004-05 lockout, which resulted in the NHL losing an entire season and the players giving in to a number of owner demands.

That was a long time ago, but not long enough for Walsh, who took aim at Linden on social media.

“Trevor Linden and ‘presenting a united front’ should never be uttered in the same sentence,” said Walsh. “One of the persons most responsible for going behind the back of NHLPA leadership to strike a deal with Gary on a triple hard salary cap with escrow. Cost players billions of dollars.”
