How Reiki Can Help Relieve Holiday Stress

Dec 19 2017, 5:02 pm

Is the crazy pace of the holidays starting to get to you? Shopping, parties and social events can all start to take their toll. But there is a solution to take time away from the hectic pace and ease the pressure.

Reiki was developed in 1922 by a Japanese Buddhist, Mikao Usui. This healing practise has since been adapted by various teachers of varying traditions. The technique commonly called palm healing or hands-on-healing transfers universal energy through the palms, allowing for self-healing and a state of equilibrium.

Going with the flow

Reiki re-establishes the normal flow of ki (life force energy) throughout the body which will enhance and accelerate the body’s innate healing abilities.

Reiki is safe, simple and a natural technique that anyone can learn or receive to empower their life. Usually a Reiki session takes 60 minutes and is done in a treatment room. The person receiving the treatment will lay on a massage table while the practitioner hovers their hands over the person’s body.

Benefits of Reiki include:

  • Promotes stress reduction and relaxation
  • Calms emotions and the mind’s thoughts
  • Acts as a natural detox of stress and energy blocks
  • Enhances mental clarity, promotes joy and grace
  • Increases vitality/ creativity and a sense of well being
  • Helps lift anxiety, depression and fear
  • Opens up creativity blocks

Reiki in Vancouver

Jose Leon is one of Vancouver’s most renowned Reiki Masters, “Reiki is a practical tool that people can use in their everyday life and something everyone can take with them to find balance in their lives,” says Leon, “it allows for your body to detox and clear away the stress.”

The intention Leon has with his Reiki practise is to assist and empower his clients. Not only to bring relief from stressors but to also expand their awareness about self care from an energetic, emotional place and restore balance.

Jose was originally brought to St. Paul’s Hospital to practice on site in 2003-2008 (by way of a wellness program for the employees). He provided massage therapy sessions for the staff. Jose introduced the Reiki module to some of his clients as he found it brought them more relaxation, calmness than massage on its own.

Over the past 13 years, Jose has served his own private clients and staff from St. Paul’s Hospital with Reiki and massage therapy to reduce emotional and occupational stressors.

Even Dr. Oz’s Wife Does It

Before a Reiki session Jose recommends that the person come with an open mind to receive the energy (release expectations) and enjoy the calming energy. They can find a thought that they would like to focus on for the session, this could be a positive image that will bring them closer to the place they would like to be.

After an appointment, Jose suggests that his clients drink plenty of water, rest and take time to relax to allow the body to process the energy that has been released after a session.

“I have seen people make major life changes after receiving treatments with Reiki with me” says Joe, “even Dr. Oz’s wife is a Reiki practitioner, more and more people are seeing how Reiki can really affect a person’s life for the better.”
