Vancouver man arrested after West Side house fire on Sunday

One man has been arrested in connection with a fire at an empty home in Vancouver on Sunday.

Around 3 pm, firefighters responded to a fire at a home on Drummond Street and West 2nd Avenue.

They arrived just in time to see a man running out of the burning building. He was detained and turned over to police.

Now, 38-year-old Vancouver resident, Johnathan Lewis Durocher has been charged with arson causing damage to property.

In the meantime, VPD has confirmed that it is continuing to investigating other recent fires in the city, to see if there’s any connection to Sunday’s incident.

“We need the public to remain vigilant, particularly in areas of vacant homes,” said Vancouver Police Const. Jason Doucette, in a release. “Please report any suspicious activity to 9-1-1 immediately.”

Anyone who may have information on any of the fires is asked to call police.
