One man is dead and the homicide team is now investigating after a fight at a home in Port Coquitlam turned deadly this weekend.

According to the Coquitlam RCMP, the incident took place shortly before 6 am on Sunday morning, when officers were called to a residence in the 2300 block of Atkins Avenue in Port Coquitlam.

Upon their arrival, police found a man suffering from serious injuries, who was then rushed to hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

A second man was arrested at the home in connection with the man’s death.

Now, police said the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken conduct of the investigation and has been working closely with its partners to gather evidence.  An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Investigators said at this point, they have determined that this was an isolated incident and that those involved knew each other.  There does not appear to be any further risk to public safety.

“Detectives will be methodically going through the crime scene, collecting all the forensic evidence available,” said Cpl. Frank Jang of IHIT. “IHIT will be conducting an extensive canvas of the neighbourhood for video surveillance footage and witnesses.”

Anyone with information, who has yet to come forward to police, is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email.

Those who would like to leave an anonymous tip can do so by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by leaving a tip online.
