Located on the edge of Yaletown on the corner of Homer and Smithe Streets, Homer St. Cafe and Bar is a contemporary restaurant with a decidedly vintage, French feel and a comfort driven food menu.

It is Homer St. Cafe and Bar’s classic “comfort” cooking and roasting that make it such a sort after eating destination in area where there is already so much choice when it comes to weekend brunch.

Although the items on Homer St. Cafe’s brunch menu change from week to week diners can expect to find revitalised brunch classics as well as Homer St. Cafe’s signature roast of the day ($16), which more often than not features pork belly, sausage, two eggs, roasted potato and the choice of sourdough or rye toast.

Thanks to its popularity, the maple chicken and bacon cobbler ($14) has become an almost permanent brunch fixture. Served in cast iron skillet with a soft poached egg, this pot pie of sorts is comprised of a house-made biscuit top crust, shredded chicken, bacon and a mirepoix mixture of chopped sautéed onion, carrot and celery. While the portion size of this dish is not overly huge, the meal itself is full of flavour, incredibly hearty and will leave one feeling truly satisfied.

In addition to a selection of tea, coffee and juice, Homer St. Cafe also offers a range of enticing breakfast cocktails. These suitably boozy concoctions include classic mimosas and caesars, as well as imaginative mixed drinks like the Port of Mumbai ($11), which consists of IPA, gin, grapefruit and lavender.

While Homer St. Cafe’s delicious food and drink options encourage a lingering weekend brunch, so does the cafe’s charming ambience and gorgeous 1930’s French bistro inspired interior.

Thoughtful details and design elements like the restaurant’s elegant black and grey tiled flooring, ornate ceiling molding, sleek industrial style lighting, marble topped tables, polished accents and beautiful back bar with its collection of rooster paintings have created a space with a positively ‘new vintage’ feel to it.

With varied seating, brunch-goers have the choice to pull up a stool at the counter overlooking the bustling kitchen, grab an individual table, reserve the private dining room or in the warmer months enjoy a meal on the street side patio.

No matter where they’re seated one thing is certain, all diners will detect the meaty aromas wafting over from the kitchen’s signature fire engine red Rotisol Grande Flame Olympia Rotisserie, which rotates deliciously crisp and juicy chicken ever so slowly.

Homer St. Cafe and Bar has absolutely succeeded in creating a casual fine dining experience for its patrons. Not only does the restaurant excel at its comfort type foods, but service is attentive without being over the top, while the ambience is sophisticated yet unpretentious, making it in our books an essential brunch spot in Vancouver that is definately worth a try.
