A coronavirus outbreak at a long-term care facility in South Vancouver appears to be getting worse as two more people have died and three more have tested positive in the last day.

Providence Health Care said in a statement that two more residents at Holy Family Hospital on Argyle Street died of their coronavirus infections as of Friday at noon.

“We offer our sincere condolences to everyone who has lost a loved one,” the statement said.  “Providence Health Care staff, medical staff and infection control experts are continuing to work with public health around the clock to ensure our long-term care residents and staff are kept as safe as possible.”

The hospital also revealed another resident and two more staff at Holy Family have tested positive for the virus.

The coronavirus outbreak at Holy Family was declared on June 9. Right now, it’s one of only three active outbreaks at long-term care facilities in the entire province.

Since the pandemic began, 42 residents and 18 of Holy Family’s staff have contracted COVID-19.
