Man arrested in connection with cyclist hit-and-run in West Vancouver

West Vancouver Police have made an arrest in connection with a hit-and-run collision that was caught on camera and left a cyclist seriously injured over the weekend.

At approximately 8:30 pm on June 10, a cyclist in the 1900 block of Bellevue Avenue was struck by a westbound pick-up truck. Despite serious injury to the rider, witnesses report the vehicle involved sped away without stopping.

The cyclist, a 48-year-old West Vancouver resident, was rushed to hospital for treatment of serious, but non life-threatening injuries.

He has since been released from hospital and is continuing to recover at home. Injuries include several rib and other fractures along with extensive bruising and abrasions.

On Monday afternoon, following media and social media releases regarding a suspect vehicle in the investigation, a 47-year-old man turned himself in WVPD headquarters, provided a voluntary statement to investigators and was arrested.

A vehicle was seized by investigators for forensic examination as well.

The man was released on an Appearance Notice for a first appearance at North Vancouver Provincial Court July 19th, 2017.

Investigators will recommend a criminal charge of Failure To Stop At Scene Of An Accident.

The investigation remains active.
