Aritzia is making waves in the local fashion scene with its latest location in the Kitsilano neighbourhood.

The Vancouver-based design house, known for its everyday luxury essentials, has now opened at 2199 West 4th Ave., near Yew Street, showcasing its continued focus on the Canadian market and increased hometown presence.

The site is eye-catching and is one of the area’s oldest buildings in Vancouver — the neoclassical structure was the original spot for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, which opened back in 1912. And in a nod to days past, you’ll find the decades-old blueprints of the building on the lower level near the fitting rooms.

Aritzia added to the “building’s existing aesthetic with new features, like an exterior colour scheme, a newly crafted millwork staircase beneath a skylight and two custom bronze sculptures at the boutique entrance.”

Those sculptures are of two dogs, highlighting the dog-friendly aspect of the neighbourhood. Throughout the store, you’ll also notice small details that dog lovers will appreciate, including the thoughtfully curated wallpaper in fitting rooms and works created by local artists.

This latest location also features some significant architectural details, including a double-height main hall and original brick and stone materials.

If you’re wondering what occupied this space previously, for 12 years, it was home to Urban Outfitters, which announced in January 2024 that it would be closing.

Aritzia opens first A-OK Cafe in B.C. this week

In addition to opening the brand-new storefront in Kitsilano, Aritzia also introduced its first A-OK Cafe at the newly expanded Guildford Town Centre Boutique in Surrey, which is now the brand’s largest Canadian boutique to date.

So what can you expect at the new cafe? A-OK is best known for its espresso drinks, as well as micro-ground tea, hot and iced beverages, and pastries. Think iced coffees, matcha lattes, pain au chocolate, and more.
