Himalaya Restaurant is a large buffet-style eatery serving up all kinds of nostalgic Indian fare.

If you’re looking for no-frills Indian food, Himalaya is the go-to spot. From Dal Makhni, a creamy lentil and bean-based dish, to their classic Butter Chicken, the food is paired to perfection with steaming basmati rice and warm, buttery naan.

The Pabla family opened the doors of Himalaya Restaurant in 1972 with the intention of serving “Exotic Indian Food & Sweets.” Fast forward several decades, and Himalaya is now the heartbeat of an international landmark, Vancouver’s Punjabi Market.

Currently, the menu is available for pick-up and delivery on DoorDash and Uber Eats. Specialties include Indian sweets like Milk Cake, Gulab Jamun, and Ladoo. Their most popular menu item is, of course, their traditional Butter Chicken dish: a rich tomato-based gravy that is mildly spiced.

A personal favourite among the restaurant owners is Cholay Bhatura, a deep-fried leavened bread that is soft that pairs heavenly with chickpea stew.

The restaurant is looking forward to continuing to serve the community and to celebrating the Punjabi Market’s 50th anniversary with a local bash as soon as they’re able to.
