Drivers heading to Vancouver should plan for a busier commute on Highway 1 this week due to the closure of an off-ramp.

According to the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, the closure will take place along Highway 1 westbound, near East 1st Avenue, from Monday, June 9, to Friday, June 13.

The northbound off-ramp (Exit 27) will be closed for the next few days to allow City of Vancouver crews to complete essential sewer upgrades on East 1st Avenue.

“Additional work is anticipated. Updates on any closures affecting the highway will be provided,” stated the ministry.

This also means there will be no left turn onto the Highway 1 northbound on-ramp from East 1st Avenue.

Westbound drivers can detour on East Hastings or McGill Street to avoid the closure. However, the ministry is warning that “additional travel time” is likely during the week.
