Part of Highway 1 will be closed for most of the day after fiery Friday morning crash

Update: As of 12:48 p.m., DriveBC has confirmed that Highway 1 has now reopened to single lane alternating traffic south of Yale following the vehicle incident. Drivers should expect delays as congestion eases.
Original story: Part of Highway 1 in Fraser Canyon remains closed due to a serious crash involving a tractor-trailer and a pickup on Friday morning.
According to a release from BC Highway Patrol, the highway is closed just south of Yale for the “balance” of the day.
The crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. on Friday when a tractor-trailer and a pickup collided head-on.
While the driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured, the driver of the pickup was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
In a news release. Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol noted that authorities are making progress in the investigation, but will “need more witnesses and dash camera video to get a complete picture of what happened.”
“It’s also critical that drivers are as patient as possible despite multiple highway closures in the area,” he added.
“We understand that major highway shutdowns cause major inconvenience, but we don’t want anyone else to get hurt.”
As of 10:09 a.m., DriveBC confirmed that the section of Highway 1 remains closed, and no estimated time of opening is available.
