This nearby heritage village is transforming into a magical holiday town

With Christmas around the corner, it can be easy to get overwhelmed with choices for holiday events. There are markets, ice-skating, light festivals, gingerbread making, and don’t forget all the Santas hanging out in malls (we mean, just one).

But for the one Christmas event that you can’t miss this year — especially if you’re someone who loves Christmas lights — make sure you mark your calendar for Heritage Christmas at Burnaby Village Museum. Did we mention it’s free?

Whether you’re looking for a place for the whole family, a fun night out with friends, or to take a romantic date, the event has something for everyone. After all, it’s one of the biggest (and yet lesser-known) holiday events in all of Metro Vancouver.

Not only will you get to wander around the vintage storefronts with thousands of lights, but you’ll get to witness some incredible carolers and bump into Christmas characters like Buddy the Elf.

Those who attend the opening event, Bright in Burnaby, will see a huge maple tree lit up before their very eyes while they sip on hot chocolate and cider and make a visit to Father Christmas at the Stride Studio. There’s even going to be a live show called “A Home for Jo-Jo.”  It all sounds like one incredibly festive evening if you ask us.

Bright in Burnaby is happening on November 30 starting at 5 pm, with the tree lighting ceremony at 6 pm, and admission is free.

Since it’s the time of year for giving, the City of Burnaby is once again giving all the proceeds from carousel tickets during Bright in Burnaby to the Burnaby Christmas Bureau. They provide gifts to families in and with low incomes and adverse living situations, as well as hampers for the elderly. Concord Pacific, a partner of the event, is kindly donating twice the amount by matching the total sales of carousel tickets.

To continue with the Christmas spirit of gift-giving, Concord Pacific will donate $5 to the Burnaby Christmas Bureau from December 13 to 23 for every photo taken at Heritage Christmas that’s posted with the hashtag #ConcordSleigh on Instagram or Facebook. Also, those who enter will get the chance to win $500 to spend at Metrotown. If that doesn’t sound like a Christmas miracle, we don’t know what does!

Beyond the opening night, Heritage Christmas will see events like the 12 Days of Christmas Scavenger Hunt, a Children’s Christmas Craft, as well as ongoing live music, carolers, and numerous theatre performances. There’s even the option to have a full turkey dinner, or festive drinks or treats from the Ice Cream Parlour.

Ready to get in the holiday spirit? Don’t miss this fully immersive holiday festivity. After all, when will be the next time you get to visit an entirely Christmas themed village?
