A former Hells Angels clubhouse forfeited to the BC government is up for sale in Vancouver.

The former clubhouse at 3598 East Georgia Street is one of three properties that in 2023 the Supreme Court of Canada upheld a decision to seize in different parts of the province.

Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Garry Begg released a statement on Monday about the Civil Forfeiture Office listing the Hastings-Sunrise property for sale.

“In February 2023, three Hells Angels’ clubhouses in Vancouver, Kelowna and Nanaimo were forfeited to the Province following more than a decade of legal proceedings – a major victory for public safety and a severe blow against organized crime,” said Begg.

“Today, the government has listed the former Hells Angels’ Vancouver clubhouse for sale, marking the first of these clubhouses to be made available for commercial sale and a further step in undercutting organized crime in British Columbia.”

A new listing for 3598 East Georgia Street went up on Monday afternoon, listed by Carlo Melo of Re/Max Heights Realty Brokerage. The 2,180 sq ft home on the 3,484 sq ft lot is described as a great opportunity for investors or builders, with a price of $1,590,000.

“Boasting a potential of five bedrooms and three baths, this property offers ample space for a growing family or a lucrative rental/building opportunity. The home’s timeless design, characterized by a functional layout is situated in a vibrant and sought-after neighbourhood of Renfrew and is close to the PNE and Highway 1 access,” reads the listing.

“A rare find that promises endless possibilities for its future owners to live or build very sought-after duplexes.”

When Daily Hive reached out to Melo for more information about the listing and its former Hells Angels’ ownership, he replied that he did not have any comment.

BC Assessment’s most recent value for the 1987-built home is $1,586,000, as of July 1, 2024, with only $129,000 dedicated to the building itself.

“As criminals find new ways to try to hide their ill-gotten gains obtained through violence, intimidation and criminal activity, we are finding targeted ways to permanently take away their assets, while protecting British Columbians,” added Begg.

“The sale, when completed, will include a right of entry, a legal tool authorizing the Civil Forfeiture Office to take the property back if it is ever acquired and used by organized crime in the future. This listing, following the sale of the Hells Angels’ Kelowna property to the City of Kelowna, sends a strong message to organized crime that we will continue to undermine every effort made in BC to profit from criminal activities.”

According to the Government of BC website, the Civil Forfeiture Office may forfeit either real property like houses and land or personal property like vehicles and electronics.

The property is sold through a realtor and listed on the multiple listing service. Sale proceeds of forfeited properties are paid into the civil forfeiture special account, which is used to pay for operational costs, grants, and compensation.
