Taking off in a helicopter is much different than an airplane. Before my Vancouver sightseeing tour with Helijet, I had never been in a helicopter before and I didn’t really know what to expect. My previous experience with flying was for long distance travel and I’d usually be excited, but mostly nervous for the flight. This was different. As we seemed to simply float directly into the air, I was completely enthralled and excited! It was a peacefully easy yet thrilling lift-off with the blades ripping around high above our heads.
Almost every local has seen images of Vancouver from an aerial perspective but to see it first hand was amazing! To see the things that we pass by on a daily basis from a different point of view is unforgettable. Even though it was an overcast day (typical Vancity weather!) we could still see so much of the gorgeous Vancouver surroundings: colourful shipyard cranes, the huge new roof of BC Place, all the white boats bobbing in the water in False Creek, the massive salt water pool at Kits beach, Denman street peacefully leading to the lush green of Lost Lagoon with its water fountain splashing up at us, all were remarkable to see from the air. The pilot ensured we knew what we were looking at and offered interesting facts along the ride, starting with information about the machine (I was in a Bell LongRanger 206L3).
I highly recommend touring the skies of Vancouver with Helijet. The professionals there are ridiculously friendly and accommodating, even when hosting a photo shoot or simply answering questions about the tour. The skilled and experienced pilots make you feel completely comfortable and safe from beginning to end of the tour. All you have to do is simply enjoy the ride!
