Have a Hallmark-like Christmas in this unique BC neighbourhood

We love our cozy, romantic Christmas movies as much as the next person; however, this year, you don’t have to get into the holiday spirit from behind the screen when a Hallmark-like cobblestone-lined town square is just a drive out of town.

District 1881 in Chilliwack is a European-inspired village with distinctive architecture and an incredible array of restaurants, breweries, and shops.

While District 1881 is open year-round, the picturesque and vibrant town really sparks holiday joy during the Christmas season.

Last week, despite the rainy night, hundreds gathered in the neighbourhood to kick off the season as a 40-foot Christmas tree was lit and sparkled brightly.

The enchanting holiday decorations will be up until the second week of January.

However, from now until December 24, District 1881 has lined up a number of special musical events, visits from the Grinch, and plenty of opportunities to snap a photo with Santa.

Amid all the shopping and photo ops, there are also a number of places to fuel up, like The Offy, which is known for great cocktails and a popular brunch spot (however, don’t sleep on their dinner menu).

Field House Brewing Co. is also an excellent spot for craft fans, which offers a number of exciting local beers and its own. And if you’re looking for a quick snack, they supply pretzel bread on their snack menu.

In previous years, we’ve checked out the Smoking Gun, which was the coziest coffee shop, for a quick energy boost. We’ve also had a slice of pizza from Elevated Pizza Co., which pizza made us feel as if we were in Italy.

The cozy neighbourhood is located in Downtown Chilliwack, just 90 minutes from Vancouver.

However, if you do feel like the drive is too long to do twice in a day, we can’t help but recommend the charming boutique stay — Hotel Morado. Found in the heart of the district, you just check in and out without the help of the front desk.

Will you make the trip out this season? Let us know in the comments below.
