It wasn’t long ago that Greyhound bus service came to an end in Canada, but there’s renewed hope that we could see their buses running in Vancouver and parts of B.C. again.
In 2021, Germany’s FlixMobility acquired Greyhound Lines in an effort to expand its service in the Canadian market following Greyhound’s discontinuation of operations.
The latest development arises from a City of Vernon council meeting, which included a letter dated Sept. 19, 2025, from FlixBus’s senior manager, Andrew Miller, addressed to Vernon Mayor Victor Cumming.
“Flixbus, through our subsidiary Greyhound Lines, is preparing an application ot the BC Passenger Transportation Board (PTB) to extend our comprehensive intercity bus service throughout British Columbia,” the letter states.
“We’re reaching out to request your support for this application, which represents
an opportunity to advocate for improved transportation options for your constituents.”
In the letter, Miller asked for a letter of support from the Vernon mayor to the BC PTB.
Miller expressed interest in reconnecting Vernon to British Columbia, but the letter went beyond Vernon, including Vancouver and other major cities in the mix.
The proposed framework (page 465) would include a Vancouver-to-Vernon connection, which would involve 5.5 hours of travel time. There would also be Vancouver-Calgary, Vancouver-Kelowna, and Vancouver-Kamloops trips.
If the PTB approves the plan, we could see this come to fruition fairly soon, according to Miller.
“Our proposed service would bring regular daily connections through Vernon, linking your residents to Kelowna, Kamloops, Vancouver, Calgary, Seattle, and beyond. The service we’re proposing would begin operating one month after the PTB grants approval, with modern, accessible vehicles stopping in your community,” Miller writes.
“This would provide your residents with direct connections to major centres for medical appointments, educational opportunities, and business travel, while also opening Vernon to increased tourism and economic activity.”
Miller requested Vernon’s letter of support by Oct. 24, 2025.
We asked FlixBus for a statement about the letter and Vernon council’s consideration.
“Over the past year, Flix North America, the parent company of Greyhound and FlixBus, has been proud to expand intercity bus service across Canada,” FlixBus said in a statement to Daily Hive Urbanized.
“In every region, we work closely with local authorities and follow all regulatory requirements and [processes]. We are excited about the prospect of potentially serving residents of British Columbia and appreciate the support from local stakeholders as we explore opportunities in the market,” it added.
