Gregor Goes To China

Dec 19 2017, 12:35 pm

The title makes it sound like a chidren’s book or something, however, this trip that the mayor of Vancouver has embarked upon is no laughing matter. It can be viewed as a necessary business trip and a step in the right direction. In fact he needs to see some results from this trip and fast because lately Gregor Robertson has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. The latest being the website improvement debacle.

As China continues in its evolution of eventually becoming the super power increasing business relations with them now makes sense. These opportunities are ripe for Vancouver to pick as our geographical proximity and large Chinese population gives us a distinct advantage to other cities in Canada and also the United States, although to a lessor extent.
In the past our city’s past mayors haven’t been the most business savvy individuals. Gregor has the business background and a vision (whether you agree with it or not is debatable) to make Vancouver the greenest city in the world and with that bring in more green jobs. China too is interested in going green, realistically they have to, the forecast for Shanghai is smog 365 days of the year. Thus, another reason to develop new greener business relationships.
Will this trip produce results? Don’t know, but if you don’t go out there and try, you never will. For that reason alone this trip is worth the cost. Just scrap a bike lane or two Gregor and your back on even terms with the taxpayer.
