It’s been nearly eight years since Sportsnet fired Gregg Zaun from their panel for what they deemed ‘inappropriate behaviour.’
Now, the former Toronto Blue Jays catcher is starting to pick up work again.
The Kelowna Falcons of the West Coast League recently announced that Zaun will be their manager for the 2026 baseball season. The league has 17 teams located throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Washington and Oregon.
This gig provides Zaun with employment closer to home, as he currently resides in British Columbia. His third wife, with whom he has recently separated, is from Kelowna.
The 54-year-old was an analyst on Blue Jays broadcasts for Sportsnet on and off for more than a decade. He joined the Sportsnet panel for MLB playoff action beginning in 2006, while he was still with the Jays organization. Zaun joined the panel part-time after the Jays were eliminated from contention.
After retiring, he began working on Sportsnet’s Blue Jays Central regularly, starting in 2011. However, that ended abruptly in December of 2017 when the Glendale, California native was fired after multiple women at Sportsnet complained about his ‘inappropriate behaviour and comments’ in the workplace.
âI was just having fun with willing participants,” Zaun said on the Toronto Legends Podcast back in August. “Yeah, the environment was inappropriate. It was my fault for letting it get as far as it did.”
Although he was exiled from the media world, Zaun continued to work in baseball.
He trained young Canadian baseball players before the COVID-19 pandemic, which he did through the Gregg Zaun Pro Camp.
In more recent years, the former World Series champion has worked for multiple minor league teams. That included stints with the Glacier Range Riders in Montana back in 2023 and the Lexington Legends in Kentucky during their 2024 season.
Most recently, he was the interim manager for the Tigres de Quintana Roo in CancĂșn, Mexico. He was released by the organization on July 18.
He now joins his fourth minor-league organization in the past three years.
âGregg has been interested in our ballclub for the last several seasons,â Kelowna Falcons owner Dan Nonis said in a press release. âThe timing didnât work out until now and we are looking forward to having Gregg lead our team back into the playoffs.”
The West Coast League typically runs from early June until mid-August.
