A second major property damage incident in the City of Surrey within 72 hours has prompted police to ask for the public’s help in tracking down the suspects.
The latest incident took place in the early morning of Wednesday, July 15, when multiple vehicles in a Newtown neighbourhood were targeted by two people.
“At approximately 5 a.m., police were called to the area of 75 Avenue and 147A Street regarding an in-progress mischief, where two suspects were observed breaking windows of vehicles that were parked near the roadway,” said the Surrey Police Service (SPS) in a release.
“Several SPS units responded to the area, but the suspects fled prior to police arrival. In total, nine vehicles sustained glass damage to front, rear, and side windows.”

“The suspects appear to be males with slim builds, wearing dark clothing, and using clubs or bats to damage the vehicles,” SPS added.
Anyone with information about the glass-smashing spree, including people who recognize the suspects or have dashcam footage, is asked to contact the Surrey Police Service at 604-599-0502 and quote file 26-73430 (SP).
The SPS is also asking the public’s help in identifying a possible suspect linked to a recent fire at Surrey City Hall.

The incident took place on Monday, July 13, at approximately 3:30 a.m., when a blaze caused “significant property damage” to the building.
“SPS Frontline officers responded to a call from Surrey Fire Services (SFS) that they were on scene for a fire at Surrey City Hall, located at 13450 104th Ave.,” said the police department in a release.
“SPS Frontline members arrived and observed the southwest side of the building engulfed in smoke.”
According to the police department, SFS told its officers that the fire had most likely started outside of the City Hall in a portable toilet, located against the building.
