Ghost Stories: Hatley Castle ghost follows family home

Dec 19 2017, 4:38 pm

We lived in Victoria at the time, and my husband, daughter (she was 3 or 4 at that point) and I went to visit Hatley Castle. The place is gorgeous, old, and yep – haunted.

So we wandered around for an hour or so with the tour and went out to get in our car, and headed home. Well, on the drive home I was getting that “feeling” that something was out of sorts, and I wasn’t comfortable at all. We got home, went about our business, all went to bed and to sleep.

At around 1 or 2 a.m., my husband and I were awoken by the sound of a baby crying and howling uncontrollably. As parents do, we rushed into my daughter’s room, still half asleep, and saw that she was completely snuggled up and fast asleep.

Puzzled, we went back to our bedroom and all was quiet, so we went back to sleep. A short while later, the same thing happened – baby crying. We realized the sound must be coming from out baby monitor (which, because of my daughter’s age, wasn’t really in use and so buried), looked at it and indeed it was lighting up and that’s where the noise was coming from.

I left it with my husband and went to my find that my daughter was again fast asleep. I went back to my bedroom and the noise was still coming from the monitor.

Completely awake and very confused at this point, I went to unplug the monitor – only to find that IT WAS ALREADY UNPLUGGED.

Of course, there were backup batteries in there right? Nope! Battery compartment was empty!

My husband and I held the noisy, flashing apparatus for awhile, completely freaked out. We ended up taking the thing downstairs and leaving it in the kitchen so that we couldn’t hear it and eventually fell back to sleep.

Over the following days, at my job at the time in an electronics repair store, I had boxes fall from top shelves, equipment falling at my feet – all sorts of trouble.

We eventually contacted a psychic who told us that we had attracted the notice of a ghost of a Nanny that once worked – and died – at the castle, but eventually she left us alone.
