Gerald Battersby, accused Yaletown shooter, pleads not guilty
Gerald Battersby, the man accused of going on a Yaletown shooting rampage this summer, has pleaded not guilty and is pursuing a trial with judge and jury.
Battersby, 61, is thought to have shot his former boss, Reckless Bikes owner Paul Dragan, on June 10, outside a Starbucks in Yaletown. The shooter then fled on foot, where he shot at police several times near Science World before being apprehended.
Appearing via video in Vancouver provincial court today, Battersby entered a not guilty plea on six charges of attempted murder through his lawyer.
Battersby is a bike mechanic who worked part time for Dragan, who survived the attack. Dragan also rented Battersby a room on West 57, however Battersby had moved out in early 2014, notes The Province.
In February, Battersby is expected to appear by video again, when a preliminary trial date will be set to determine if there is enough evidence to proceed with the trial.
