Georgia Viaduct could face extended closure this weekend

The City of Vancouver is warning travellers of a closure of the Georgia Viaduct this weekend.
According to the City, the Georgia Viaduct will be closed for both drivers and pedestrians beginning on Saturday, May 30 at 6 a.m., till 8 p.m.
The reason for the closure is to support crane removal at a nearby development at 150 West Georgia Street. The closure will start at the intersection of West Georgia Street and Beatty Street, and it will end at Prior Street.
While the City expects work to be completed on Saturday, there’s the chance for it to extend into Sunday, May 31, until 2:30 p.m.
For an alternative route, the City points out that the Dunsmuir Viaduct will remain open as normal for westbound traffic heading into downtown Vancouver.
Pedestrians are also advised to use the path on the Dunsmuir Viaduct, and the same goes for cyclists (the City advises using the eastbound bike lane).
To add to the strain, there’s already an ongoing closure of Pacific Boulevard between Smithe and Carrall streets. That closure will remain until the end of July to support tournament operations for the FIFA World Cup.
For the Pacific Boulevard closure, the City is maintaining access to Smithe Street for Parq and One Pacific.
Vancouver Police Department traffic control will be on site to support the public during the closure. Access for local residents will be maintained.
⚠️ Travelling in and out of downtown on Saturday? The Georgia Viaduct will be fully closed for crane removal work nearby.
