Gain Wah - a taste of old school Chinatown

Dec 19 2017, 3:13 pm

Chinatown is in the middle of revitalization and is an emerging neighborhood with lots of new restaurants moving in. However, there are still places to eat in Chinatown that offer cheap, quality Chinese food and one of the best is Gain Wah. Located on Keefer in between Main and Gore, Gain Wah doesn’t look like much on the outside, or inside.

Gain Wah Menu

Gain Wah makes up for what it lacks in ambiance with what it offers in food. The menu covers everything from barbecue meats and rice dishes to congee and noodle soup, all at very reasonable prices. There are plenty of menu items that will satisfy the more adventurous or nostalgic eater, such as the curried squid or beef tripe. For those who prefer the more western style Chinese food dishes there are lots to choose from including pork fried rice and breaded almond chicken. Even with an extensive menu and pages of food options, Gain Wah also offers a daily special menu as well.

Gain Wah Dishes

Service is fast and friendly with dishes coming to the table as they are ready. A typical lunch won’t cost more than $10, with dinner coming closer to $15 and there will still likely be leftovers to take home. If you’re craving a taste of the Chinatown of old, Gain Wah is a great place to visit.
