Fresh Prep 30 minute recipe kits re-invent the weeknight meal

Dec 19 2017, 10:44 pm

Fresh Prep’s 30-minute recipe kits have had a great reception since the company’s launch earlier this year.

Many in the city have taken to their quintessential kraft pinstripe boxes containing pre-portioned and prepped ingredients along with an easy to follow recipe card – all the makings of a delicious, healthy meal. Overwhelming demand has led the company to open its new location in Point Grey, complete with a cold-pressed juice and smoothie bar.

“Cold-pressed juice perfectly compliments the values we’re striving to create with our service,” explains Fresh Prep co-founder Husein Rahemtulla. “When we first came up with the idea for Fresh Prep, it was because we wanted people to have an option as easy as take-out, but for it to be a better, healthier one.

“With cold-pressed juice all you’re getting is the fruits and vegetables; no added anything. The same underlying motivation applies with our recipe kits: it’s important to us that our customers are able to know and to control exactly what goes in their food,” Rahemtulla says. “Being able to try out gourmet recipes without long shopping trips and excess ingredients inevitably expiring in their pantries is a bonus.”

Fresh Prep’s plan to help Vancouverites reclaim dinnertime and cook up gourmet meals in less than 30 minutes starts everyday at 6 a.m. when drivers start picking up farm fresh produce throughout Metro Vancouver. The frenzy then shifts to their prep area, where workers hand chop and pack ingredients for that day’s orders, which can be made up to 2 p.m. for same day delivery. Orders are then delivered to homes and offices in Vancouver between 3 to 8 p.m., with customers being able to specify a one-hour time period for when they’d like it to arrive.

Overseeing the whole operation are co-founders Dhruv Sood and Husein Rahemtulla and operations manager Becky Switzer.

“We pride ourselves on being able to go from a farm pick-up in the morning to our customers table for dinner that evening” says Sood, a UBC graduate from Sauder who specialized in transportation and logistics. “We’re able to accomplish such a high standard of freshness by keeping all our suppliers local.”

Point Grey Grand Opening

For their grand opening, Fresh Prep is handing out free cold-brew coffee and giving away cold-pressed juice and recipe kits all day on Saturday, April 11 at its location in Point Grey (4515 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver).
