The Fox Cabaret Opens this Weekend

Dec 19 2017, 5:48 pm

Mount Pleasant’s notorious Fox Cinema is set to reopen its doors this weekend, completing a year long transformation from porn theatre to arts + culture cabaret. Dubbed by many as the new Waldorf, many in the city have been waiting for the arrival of The Fox Cabaret.

Arrival, the team behind the Fox, has announced plans to unveil their new space this weekend for an open house celebration with DJs, live performance, visuals, & more. “This is a kind of a soft opening,” says Arrival’s Danny Fazio. “We’re inviting friends down to play some records, perform and hang out in the Cabaret. The idea is to start working in the space, see how it feels with people in it, and also have a great time.”

The opening of the Fox Cabaret will mark the first time that Arrival has had a permanent venue since the closing of the widely loved Waldorf Hotel. “Since the Waldorf closed, we’ve been putting on shows everywhere from the VAG to The Hotel Vancouver” say Arrival’s Thomas Anselmi. “It’s exciting to have a home base again.”

While the space is not fully completed yet (plans for an upstairs cocktail bar will be finished later this month), the group are excited to get going on what has been a project over a year in the making. “We want to open the space up to the community”, says Arrival’s Ernesto Gomez.” Our objective with the Fox is to be a central part of the cultural life in Mount Pleasant and in the city of Vancouver as a whole.”

The Fox opens on Friday February 28th.
