Richard Zussman, a former Global News legislative reporter, is taking a stab at politics.

Zussman is an award-winning journalist who spent over a decade covering B.C., including COVID, wildfires, and elections, and will be running for the BC NDP in Saanich South.

“Things are tough for people right now, and Donald Trump’s trade war is making things harder. He is threatening B.C. jobs and putting pressure on families and businesses,” said Zussman in a release.

“After spending my career interviewing leaders across all parties, I’m joining the BC NDP because I know they’ll stand up for B.C. and Canada by supporting workers and businesses, opening new markets beyond the United States, bringing down costs, and strengthening health-care.”

Zussman is not only well-known for his reporting, but he is also the co-author of A Matter of Confidence: The Inside Story of the Political Battle for BC.

Prior to working for Global, he held the role of provincial affairs reporter for CBC BC. He was also a frequent contributor to many of the talk shows at CKNW Radio.

Zussman announced his departure from Global BC in November 2025, saying he wanted to take his passion and “try something new.”

It later came out that Zussman joined the Burson British Columbia team and had been named Burson’s vice president of public affairs.

“Richard is deeply committed to his community and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team,” said David Eby, Leader of the BC NDP, in a release.

“Richard joins a growing team of candidates who will champion our plan to free our economy from the U.S. control and lower costs for British Columbians.”

A few notable BC NDP MLAs have announced that they will not be seeking re-election, including four ministers: Ravi Kahlon, Kelly Greene, Brenda Bailey, and Lana Popham.
