Longtime Global BC reporter Richard Zussman has announced that he’s leaving after eight years of broadcasting with the company.

The legislative reporter posted on social media on Thursday that he will have his last day with the company on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

“I am deeply grateful to all of the viewers, social media followers and listeners over the years,” he said on X.

Zussman has been with Global BC since 2018 and has won multiple Jack Webster Awards, which spotlight and celebrate the best journalists and journalism in the province throughout the year.

The Master’s in Broadcast Journalism graduate from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University has also received multiple RTDNA Canada awards and Edward R. Murrow awards throughout his career of covering B.C. news and politics.

Zussman is the co-author of A Matter of Confidence: The Inside Story of the Political Battle for BC, and previously held the role of provincial affairs reporter for CBC BC. He was also a frequent contributor to many of the talk shows at CKNW Radio.

“I have made the decision to take my passion and try something new,” Zussman added on Bluesky, hinting at what’s to come in his future.

Politicians, colleagues and fans commented on Zussman’s announcement with messages of thanks mixed with posts of sadness to see him leave.

“Your calm, clear and thoughtful assessments of political issues has become part of our daily lives will truly be missed Richard,” said Vancouver city councillor Sarah Kirby-Yung. “I hope that for you personally this means an exciting new chapter ahead. Staying tuned on that for breaking news.”

“Wow, big move,” added veteran broadcaster Lynda Steele. “Good luck and have fun on your next career adventure.”

“Tough to hear, Richard,” said Alexander Quon, provincial affairs reporter for CBC Saskatchewan. “This is a big loss for BC politics and Global BC. Good luck on whatever comes next!”
