Everyone loves a unique postgame, locker room gift, but the New York Islanders just took things to the next level.
After losing their first three games of the season, the Islanders got into the win column with a 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night.
Leading the way was Bo Horvat, who registered the second hat trick of his career. He managed to score goals shorthanded, on the power play and into an empty net, helping the Islanders seal the win.

It was Horvat’s first hat trick since October of 2019.
Following the Isles’ first win of the season, captain Anders Lee unveiled a new gift in the locker room for the chosen player of the game.

The NHL has seen its fair share of unique postgame locker room awards. There are well-known ones, like the Broadway Hat that the New York Rangers have used over the years. The Edmonton Oilers had a WWE-themed belt that they handed out in the locker room. Over in Vancouver, the Canucks had something similar back when Bruce Boudreau was the head coach.
The Seattle Kraken are one of the most recent teams to unveil a new locker room award, as they’ve shown off an F1-inspired helmet for their player of the game.
However, the Islanders might be the first NHL team to have a postgame award that moves.
Horvat donned the electronic Iron Man helmet, which seemed to automatically lift up, revealing his face.
Islanders fans alluded to the fact that the team is having more fun now after the organization underwent a big managerial change in the offseason.

Lou Lamoriello was general manager of the Islanders for the past seven seasons. He was historically harsh in terms of team rules, such as not allowing any of his players to have facial hair.
His contract was not renewed in the offseason, and Mathieu Darche was hired as general manager.
Horvat is entering his third full season with the Islanders. He led the team last season with 57 points in 81 games.
