For the Love of Baths: Vancouver based bath products trade in toxins for love

“The most important thing we can do for ourselves is to be grateful.”

These are the words of Madeleine Liceaga, creator of For the Love of Baths. If you look at the ingredients on her products, including toxin free bath bombs and candles, you will find the word “love.”

That’s because everything is handcrafted in small batches in North Vancouver using the most soothing and natural ingredients possible.

With names like White Tea Ginger and Pink Grapefruit, if it’s true that what goes on our body goes in our body, then these bath products are what you want to be using.

When someone draws a bath, the intention is to feel rejuvenated, relaxed, soothed and fabulous. Strongly perfumed and chemically inclined products will dry out the skin or leave it feeling unnatural. Instead, most of the products from For the Love of Baths use five to six ingredients – that’s it! Everything is gluten free, and all but the lotion candies are vegan, with no parabens, no phthalates, no SLS. Basically, none of the bad stuff.

“I am very selective about the ingredients I choose to create a product and I stay far far away from toxins,” says Liceaga. “We are living at a time where we are all reading food labels and making conscious decisions about what we eat, I think we should be equally conscious about what we put on our skin. My goal is that anyone who picks up our products will read the list of ingredients and understand what is in them without having to have a degree in Chemistry.”

This is often a highly emotional time of year, with the stress before the holidays followed by the feeling of needing to renew oneself afterwards for the New Year, where resolutions can often jolt the body of out its habits. Finding tranquility is more important than ever.

“I think a themed bath using our bath blocks and lotion candles are a must,” says Liceaga. “We like to think of our Bath Blocks as a one-way ticket to relaxation and enjoyment. Coconut oil will have you feeling soft and smooth, and the natural astringent and anti-inflammatory properties of witch hazel will tighten pores and leave you looking fresh and toned. Each block is hand-wrapped in waterproof and recyclable, treeless stone paper.”

Further, she recommends that once you have finished your bath, it’s time to rehydrate the skin. Did she mention that the candle wax can be used as a moisturizer once you blow it out? Oh ya, about that.

“If you lit your lotion candle during your bath, now it would be ready to apply some warm soothing cocoa and shea butter lotion all over,” she says.

My experience with these products was nothing short of fabulous. The lotion of the candle wax was light on my skin and not oily at all. It left a soothing scent that completely relaxed my senses. The bath bomb was a hit and the words “this is the best bath bomb I have ever used” were spoken on a couple of occasions. If there is a secret to a beautiful bath, this is it.

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” – Rumi
