From coast to coast Canada’s culinary scene is thriving. In this weekly column, we round up the biggest food-focused stories from across the country each week.

Vancouver
- Vancouver is getting a permanent ‘zero waste’ grocery store. Formerly a pop-up, Nada Grocery aims to eliminate excess waste by eliminating packaging, confusing labels, and unrecognizable ingredients.
- Champagne gummy bears are getting their own store in Vancouver. A famous LA-based candy purveyor is opening up its first ever standalone store in Canada on the West Coast. Suck it Toronto.
Calgary
- Two Calgary-based businesses are on a mission to make smoothies without added sugars–and best of all they’re now available at 135 locations across Canada.
- This Toronto-based cannabis lifestyle brand opened its first retail store in Calgary this week. Just part of a plan that will see six new locations open across the prairies in the next two years.

Montreal
- The Habs are opening Canada’s largest sports bar. Two of them actually. The first one is set to open before the home-opener. Expect space for 1,000+ sports fans across 25,714 square feet outfitted with a 4K-quality 46′ X 20′ main screen,” and over 65 HD TVs.
Toronto
- The OG owner of Vancouver’s Craque de Creme has relocated to Toronto and is opened the city’s first gourmet crème brûlée cafe.
- The Butter Tart Taste-Off will show off a true taste of Ontario in Peterborough this September. The regional delicacy is universally loved in these part of the country–though there’s no consensus on the addition of raisins to the recipe.
