Firefighters pull man to safety after boat becomes stuck in Fraser River ice (VIDEO)

A boater who got stuck in the icy waters of the Fraser River on Saturday was freed thanks to some help from Township of Langley firefighters.

In a video the incident which was posted to Youtube firefighters can be seen using ropes and a small boat to help free the man from his boat, which was stuck near Louie Crescent, and pull him across the ice to safety.

Bruce Ferguson, deputy fire chief for the Township of Langley, described the incident as “more of an accommodation” than a rescue.

“We were able to borrow a small craft and through the use of ropes send it to the person requiring assistance,” he told Daily Hive.

And while they were able to assist in this particular situation, Ferguson noted that the Township of Langley “does not provide swift water rescue.”
