Name and Twitter handle: Katie Maximick, @KMaximick

Occupation: Freelance writer and newest sports reporter for Alaska Highway News (yes I’m moving next week).

What do you like most about your job? Everything. Writing completes me and is always therapeutic, whether or not it’s a diary entry, sports article or a column I’m frantically typing out because I’m fired up about something. The fact I get paid to do what I love always blows my mind.

A notable moment on Twitter? There are many! Recently when George Strombo started following me, and when I talked to LMFAO’s Red Foo about WordPress (I heart him). Publicly humiliating a certain female sports “celebrity”
for calling the Sedins sisters was pretty awesome, too.

Your best tweet: You want me to pick one out of 31,000? Impossible, but it most likely had to do with Alain Vigneault chewing gum.

What did you want to be growing up? A marine biologist. I really wanted to study the South American giant otter, but then I realized by Grade 11 that I’d need chemistry for that. Chemistry involves math, so it wasn’t going to happen.

If you could have dinner with 1 person (alive or dead) who would it be? Oscar Wilde. What a unique, hilarious and witty human being he must have been. It would be the dinner of a lifetime.

Your claim to fame: Probably my media appearances during the Canucks’ Cup run last season. I was on TV, radio, in papers, you name it, for weeks on end. I think that’s when people started to realize that maybe I DID know something about hockey.

Do you know of a hidden gem in our city? Working for the Parks Board for a couple summers showed me a lot of Vancouver. I would say the Sun Yat Sen Classical Garden in Chinatown. It literally is a quiet little paradise in a rather run-down part of Vancouver. Highly, highly recommend it.

If you were a superhero, who would you be and why? Wonder Woman. I’m 5’11, have the outfit already and I like to arm wrestle. Obviously an easier transition than, say, that weird lava/rock guy from Fantastic 4.

If you were a vegetable, what would you be and why? Was it Karm who thought up this question? Must have been. I think I’d be an onion, not because of the layers cliche everyone uses, but because onions make people cry, and I’d like to think I have that ability, too. That sounded really mean, didn’t it?

Recommend a Twitter account that deserves some recognition? @misst0pia. If you love hockey and can handle a little sass and some extreme sarcasm, follow her. She’s hilarious.

Describe yourself in 3 words: Loud, loyal and always laughing.
